Rare bird often found on the shore of muddy ponds, marshes and lakes
Mid summer last year some of my neighbors that I go birding with said that there is a rare bird along the lake and told me it would definitely be a life bird for me, so I grabbed my tripod, scope and binoculors and went down there with them and then saw this bird walking the shore.
Picture was taken threw scope sorry about low quallity
Rare to us in Western New York, this was a treat considering it is more so of a western bird then eastern. Good luck with this one, it could be hard!

I’d better pass, since they’re abundant where I live (SF), especially right now

Yes, it’s an American avocet in breeding plumage. Saw my first ones over the weekend, so it’s quite a coincidence for me!

Saw my first American avocets in February in California and they have instantly become one of my favorite birds.
